JHS PackRat (Black) Distortion Pedal
Guaranteed Safe Checkout:
In 1978, Scott Burnham and Steve Kiraly set out to build a distortion pedal that didn't exist yet — one that could cover overdrive, distortion and fuzz in a single box — after years spent playing, repairing and modifying every distortion pedal on the market. By 1979 Scott had perfected the circuit in his basement workshop in Kalamazoo, and the ProCo RAT was born. Over more than 40 years the RAT went on to shape guitar tone across genres, used by artists including Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Metallica, REM, the Eagles, Jeff Beck and Radiohead. The PackRat is JHS's tribute to that history, using the same digital-runway switching system found in the Muffuletta and Bonsai to route 261 components through 40 individual switches, giving nine fully analogue circuits that replicate specific RAT eras down to their aged components. Building it meant tracking down and studying more than 100 individual RAT units, interviewing former ProCo employees, and working through inconsistent online histories and dating methods to build as accurate a timeline as possible of how the circuit changed over four decades.
