The Zoom H1n is a battery-powered handheld recorder offering up to 10 hours of recording time. Its X/Y microphones capture high-quality stereo sound, supporting up to 24-bit audio at 44.1, 48 or 96kHz sampling rates in WAV and various MP3 formats, with one-touch button controls and a monochromatic 1.25-inch LCD display that's easy to read in bright light. An advanced onboard limiter offers distortion-free signal up to 120dB SPL, a low-cut filter helps eliminate pops and unwanted low-frequency rumble, and an overdub function lets you add layers of audio. Playback Speed Control lets you transcribe music, interviews and other recordings without altering pitch, and the H1n can be set to auto-record, pre-record and self-time. A 1/8-inch stereo mic/line input supplies plug-in power (2.5 volts) for external microphones or other sound sources, and headphones connect via a 1/8-inch headphone output with dedicated volume control; a built-in speaker is also included for listening back. The USB port provides a digital output of the stereo mix, exchanges data with a computer, and lets the H1n be used as a USB microphone and a microSD card reader. It also comes with free download licences for Steinberg's Cubase LE music production software and WaveLab LE audio editing software.
