Pearl was founded by Katsumi Yanagisawa in Tokyo, Japan and originally made music stands. In 1950 he switched his focus to making drums. By 1953 the company changed its name to "Pearl Musical Instrument Company," and began building drum kits, marching drums, timpani, Latin percussion instruments, cymbals, stands and accessories. In 1966 "The President Series" was manufactured and it cracked the USA and European market. Drummers in bands from KISS, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Deep Purple as well as artists like Dennis Chambers, Gary Husband and Michael Thomas have all played Pearl kits. Pearl’s Superior Shell Technology utilizes a proprietary technique for achieving the ultimate air chamber. It begins with select woods chosen for their unique acoustic attributes, milled to precise thickness with overlapping scarf joint seams, for a perfect air-tight fit. The wood plies are saturated with Pearl’s proprietary “AcoustiGlue” that permeates every pore and dries to the exact consistency of the wood for optimum resonance. Finally, the plies are formed in high-temperature molds with 1000 PSI of hydraulic pressure to produce perfect drum shells that exhibit superior tone, optimal resonance and extreme strength.

OptiMount tom suspension system

Pearl is as known for its hardware as it is the quality of its shells. The Masters Maple Complete's OptiMount suspension system promises maximum security and tonal response from your high toms. OptiMounts attach to your tom's tension rods and allow shells to resonate without restriction.
