The Boss PS-2 Digital Pitch Shifter/Delay (1987–1994) is a pioneering, compact stompbox combining a 12-bit lo-fi digital delay (up to 2 seconds) with basic pitch shifting (±1 octave). It is known for its warm, gritty, and, metallic, vintage digital character, featuring 6 modes.
- Delay Modes: Offers three modes with maximum times of 125ms, 500ms, and 2s, suitable for ambient, "bathroom" delay, or metallic drones.
- Pitch Shifting: Provides +1 octave, -1 octave, and a Manual mode. The manual mode allows for, creating detuned or glissando-like, space-age, or chaotic, "h hectic" sounds.
- Controls: Features Mode, Fine/Manual, Feedback, and Balance (dry/wet mix) knobs.
- Tone & Character: Due to its 12-bit, early digital, low-fi design, it offers a distinct, "warm, " "thick, " or, slightly degrading delay, which is highly, sought after.
- Usage: It was popular in shoegaze and, is, often used for, its, unique, oscillation, sounds, rather than precise, tracking.
