The Boss CS-1 Japan is an early, sought-after vintage compressor pedal known for its "squishy" sound, unique photo coupler circuit, and a switchable treble mode for enhanced high frequencies. Introduced in 1978, it was the first in Boss's compact line, featuring simple Level and Sustain controls, but differs significantly from later CS-2 and CS-3 models which use VCAs.
