A "Boss BF-2 Japan spec" refers to the Boss BF-2 Flanger pedal manufactured in Japan during the 1980s, characterized by its black or green "Made in Japan" label on the bottom and the use of an ACA-style 12V adapter instead of the standard 9V. These Japanese-made BF-2s are an earlier version of the pedal, which later moved production to Taiwan in 1990.
Key Characteristics of Japanese-Made BF-2s
- Label: Early models have a black "Made in Japan" label, while later ones from 1984 onwards have a green label.
- Power: They require a 9V Boss ACA power adapter,
- Construction: They were produced by Roland Corporation in Japan.
- Analog Circuitry: Like all BF-2s, these are analog pedals.
- Controls: They feature Manual, Depth, Rate, and Resonance (Res) knobs to shape the flanger effect.
Sound and Effect
- The BF-2 produces flanging effects that can range from mild chorus-like sounds to intense "jet plane" swooshes.
- The Resonance (Res) knob controls the feedback or intensity of the effect.
